Why Stratechia
The Stratechia Difference
We exist to help our clients profitably grow to market leadership by catalyzing and coaching the internal creativity and organizational capabilities that often lie dormant, hidden, or even locked away.
Unlike traditional strategy consulting firms that sell you back your own ideas derived and repackaged from a long, drawn-out interview and assessment process, we facilitate your best thinking in real-time from the inside out in focused workshops using our proprietary Framestorm™ method, typically in one-tenth the time and at one-fourth the cost.
Our Values
Guiding Principles
What we believe shapes who we are. Who we are shapes how we work.
I. Elegance rules
Achieving maximum effect with minimum means.
II. Choices, not plans
Strategy is about making choices, especially what not to do.
III. Frame first
Difficult challenges demand intelligent framing.
IV. Test everything
Every great idea is but a hypothesis when first conceived.

Founder
Matthew E. May
Matthew spent nearly a decade working with Toyota Motor Sales USA — eight years as an exclusively retained Senior Advisor (1999–2006), followed by continued advisory work in subsequent years. During his retainership, he played a pivotal role in developing and launching the University of Toyota — the company's corporate university. He designed and taught capstone courses in the Toyota Production System and continuous improvement, and completed hundreds of kaizen cycles across dozens of functions, from design and engineering to sales and service. That experience built a practitioner-level understanding of lean principles that can't be acquired from books or classrooms.
He later studied strategic choice-making under Roger Martin, co-architect of the Playing to Win framework, and completed Stanford d.school's Design Thinking Bootcamp — weaving these disciplines into a Lean methodology purpose-built for growth-stage companies.
From 2021 to 2025, Matthew served as Sr. Operating Advisor at Insight Partners, one of the world's leading technology-focused private equity firms. There, he built and ran the Lean Scale-Up program, deploying his methodology across the firm's portfolio of growth-stage technology companies — driving measurable gains in revenue growth, process efficiency, and time to value.
Matthew is the author of six books. His first, The Elegant Solution (Simon & Schuster, 2006), was the world's first insider account of Toyota's approach to innovation and a Wall Street Journal bestseller. His most recent, What A Unicorn Knows (2023), coauthored with Insight Partners Operating Partner Pablo Dominguez, captures the S.C.A.L.E. framework at the heart of the Lean Scale-Up program. His work has appeared in The New York Times, Harvard Business Review, Fast Company, Strategy+Business, and Inc.
He holds an MBA in Entrepreneurial Management & Strategic Planning from the Wharton School and a BA in Social & Behavioral Sciences from Johns Hopkins University. His books have received the Shingo Prize for Research and the Axiom Gold Medal. He founded Stratechia in 2019 and is based in Los Angeles.
